Due to careless use of a mandoline (kitchen slicer), I've cut off part of my right pinky finger. It's just a flesh wound, but the letter "p" is going to be hard to type for a while.

I can see the headlines now: Amazon.com Patents Both Energy & Matter, Demands Licensing Fees From All Of Existance. This story at CNET.com describes how patenting one click shopping wasn't enough, so now Amazon has patented affiliate programs as well. It is a good time to shop with Amazon's competion. Type www.noamazon.com next time you want to shop online.

A couple years ago I presented a report on ECHELON to my electronic privacy class. I cited my sources, but quite a few of my classmates thought I was making it up. Fortunately, I received a good grade and by now everyone's heard of it. I'm still not sure I care, but the European Union cares, France cares and the ACLU cares, so maybe I should think about it some more.

I was just introduced to the American Amateur Press Association (AAPA). The sample bundle I was given is just brilliant and because I'm interested in letterpresses and typography, I believe I'll be sending my $15 in soon. In many ways, the bundle reminds me of the "weblog community" only with people sharing their thoughts on paper (often printed on their own letterpresses [you can tell, because the letters are sometimes worn and maybe there will be an upside down "s"]). Someday, I hope to have a few fonts and a press of my own. Until then, I'll have to borrow a laser printer.
