Sunday, March 5I love type. I love type so much that finding a website dedicated to wood type just made my day. I'm positively giddy. Now, if only I could find a copy of American Wood Type by Rob Roy Kelly I'd be ecstatic. I'm going to see an old friend today. It's a long drive and I'll be going alone, so I'll probably listen to a book on tape (The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson) that Jen loaned me and wonder if it's worth voting this year. Saturday, March 4I played with editthispage.com for a while and I didn't really understand its discussion link graphic Friday, March 3I love typographic humor. Thursday, March 2I've added quite a few links recently. Memo to the folks at DoubleClick: Just because the folks in marketing like it and just because it could make you a lot of money does not mean it is a good idea. Thanks for backing down... or not. Wednesday, March 1Jonny Polonsky is a lyrical genius. "I still want you today and I hope to hear you say that I am unable to resist your scurvy love and I am unable to resist your evil love..." I added a new typeface today. It's called Gramp's Lung. I sketched it out on paper, scanned it in and then played with it a bit before generating the font. I made it almost a year ago, but then lost it. I just found it yesterday. Please enjoy this grungy new (to you) typeface. Tuesday, February 29When I worked help desk at university I got a call just like this one. The folks at O'Reilly (namely Tim O'Reilly) are opposed to Amazon's recent parasitic patents. They've now started the Patents DevCenter to act as a portal site for this issue. ZDNet's Hollywood's War on Open Source is yet another article on the DVD MPAA/Hollywood versus consumers case. Monday, February 28Holy cow! Dave Winer is right on with this essay on patents, blogger, and Manila. My favorite quote from the piece: "You can care too, you are not powerless, for now." Sunday, February 27Due to careless use of a mandoline (kitchen slicer), I've cut off part of my right pinky finger. It's just a flesh wound, but the letter "p" is going to be hard to type for a while. archives |
